While Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Lucas Leiva may not have been the most influential players on the pitch just before leaving Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool respectively this summer, but there is something all three players have in common and have taken away from these clubs. Longevity.
The trio were the longest serving players at the aforementioned clubs but have all left after failing to command regular first team games in the past season.
But at the same time, that does not mean these clubs – and others in the Premier League – do not have new players who have taken up the position as being the longest serving.
We take a look at the top six clubs (in alphabetical order) from last season and see who their present longest serving players are.

The speedy winger joined the Gunners from Southampton as a highly rated teen. Whether he has gone on to live up to those expectations is another topic entirely, but as of the moment, he is Arsenal’s longest serving player.
This would have been John Obi Mikel, had he not left the club in January. But as it stands, Gary Cahill is the longest serving Blue at Stamford Bridge, having joined from Bolton Wanderers in 2012
Liverpool
Now, this is not the name you would ordinarily expect to be at the top of the pile of the longest serving players, but facts are facts. Jon Flanagan – once compared to the Brazilian legend Cafu – is the current longest serving player at Anfield. He joined the Liverpool first team in 2010 from the Liverpool reserves. Yes, he’s homegrown.
Manchester City
Well, if this had been done yesterday, answer would have been Joe Hart. But the goalkeeper has since joined West Ham on loan, so captain Vincent Kompany takes the cake, having joined the Citizens in 2008 from Hamburg.
Manchester United
Obviously. Rooney’s exit means new skipper Michael Carrick becomes the longest serving player on the payroll at Old Trafford. He joined from Tottenham in 2006.
Tottenham
Left-back Danny Rose is the longest serving player at White Hart Lane  he joined the Tottenham reserves from Leeds U18s in 2007
