ESPN FC reporter Julien Laurens is backing Arsenal to make an offer in the region of £50m for AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar
Arsenal will make a third offer worth around £50m for AS Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to Julien Laurens.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move to sign the France attacking midfielder despite the Ligue 1 champions’ reluctance to sell.
Arsenal have already seen bids in the region of £30m and £35m rejected by the French champions but Arsene Wenger is rumoured to still have his sights on Lemar.
The 21-year-old scored nine times and made 10 assists in 34 appearances in Ligue 1 last season to help Monaco win the title.
Arsenal have already signed Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon this summer.
Speaking to ESPN FC about Arsenal’s interest in Lemar, Ligue 1 expert Laurens suggested Monaco would be unwilling to sell the playmaker for less than £80m but expects the Gunners to come back in with an improved bid.
“I don’t think anyone will spend £80m on Lemar,” Laurens said.
“Arsenal will come back with another bid – but not over £50m.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League last season but did end the campaign on a positive note after a 2-1 win against Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
