Georginio Wijnaldum has told Liverpool that they must look to Chelsea’s title success last season a blueprint for their own campaign this term.
The west London side were by far the Premier League’s top performing team last season as they won the title with ease in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the club.
Their dramatic turnaround came just one season after the Blues endured a disastrous campaign and slumped to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League.
Liverpool will be hoping to mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season after the Reds ended up in fourth place and sealed their return to the Champions League last term.
And Liverpool star Wijnaldum feels that the Reds have a lot to learn from how Chelsea managed to lift the title last season.
Wijnaldum is quoted as saying by Metro: “We know we must read the games better. You don’t always have to win beautiful.
“Chelsea is a good example. Last season, they were the best team. They knew what they had to do. That’s what we needed to do.
“We must make sure we learn from the past and do it this season.”
Chelsea missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last season, however, when they ended up losing 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final back in May.
