It’s the end of an era at Old Trafford, with the nation’s top scorer having departed for boyhood charges Everton.
After 253 goals, five league titles, one FA Cup, three League Cups, four Community Shields, one Champions League, one Europa League and a Club World Cup, Rooney, along with Manchester United’s fans, has plenty of fond memories to look back on.
However, United’s all-time leading scorer has received much abuse from fans over the past few years, with many believing he should have left the club a long time ago and still angry about contract negotiations that happened a few seasons back.
Rooney will go down as a legend at the club there is no doubt about that and, with some perspective on it all, Manchester United fans will grow to miss their club captain and on that note, here are the top THREE things United fans will miss about Wayne Rooney.
Looking at the current Manchester United squad, apart from Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney is the last Fergie signing from those glorious mid to late 2000s the club had with special mention going to their 07/08 season.
The glory days of the red side of Manchester seem so far away now that Rooney always serves as a little reminder of what once was. With him leaving and Carrick to soon depart, the chapter on those glory days will finally come to a close.
Maybe he slowed down in recent years, but obviously, United fans will miss their all-time record goal scorer for his goals.
253 goals for any club is no easy achievement, but to do it for Manchester United is on another level, pack that in with his 145 assists and you’ve got a lot of goals to thank Wayne Rooney for.
The question now is, who is going to score them for you now?
Forgetting the Fergie days and all of his goals, the thing United fans are going to miss the most is using Rooney as a scapegoat for their recent failures.
Having a few United fan friends himself, our landlord can remember countless times when United underperformed over the last few seasons but who got the blame? Wayne Rooney did.
Why is anyone’s guess, it could be due to the fact that Rooney reportedly tried to leave the club twice and help them up for a bigger contract and that still leaves a sour taste in their mouths or it could be down to the fact that he isn’t as good as he used to be.
Whatever it is, they will certainly miss taking to Twitter to complain about their captain.
