While Jose Mourinho isn’t renowned for his ability to field academy graduates, the Red Devils flaunt a precious and treasured history of youth development.
The most notable of which is the prestigious ‘Class of 92’ which included Gary Neville, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville. This remains to be the perfect template for youth integration.
This is a tradition that was especially evident during Louis Van Gaal’s reign as United manager. The experienced Dutchman played an integral role as far as youth development was concerned rewarding young players with vital first-team experiences.
Without question, our resident United fans are hopeful that their academy players will be integrated into the first-team setup. Our landlord has highlighted three players he thinks that Mourinho should fast-track into Manchester United’s first-team…
The 20-year-old has been included in United’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States of America. Mitchell made his first senior appearance for the Red Devils last season, starting against Crystal Palace.
The Englishman is endowed with considerable pace and an excellent skill set. He is highly recognised as one of Mourinho’s most promising young talents.
Another academy player that has been named on Jose Mourinho’s pre-season tour is Scott McTominay. The 20-year-old made two senior appearances for the Red Devils last season, the first of which was as a substitute against Arsenal in May.
He is highly regarded for his commanding presence and ability to be influential at either end of the field, the perfect example of a box-to-box midfielder.
While this youngster hasn’t been named on United’s summer tour, there is no denying that he’s incredibly skilled. Gomes is the captain of England’s under-17 side and made his United debut last season against Crystal Palace at the age of just 16.
The schoolboy is lauded for his stunning range of passes, his ability to score and his positional awareness.
